Sorting through Crafting Magazines, Organization

I subscribe to LOTs and LOTs of magazines! Crafting, cooking, women's interests, gossip mags, current event mags, decorating mags, health mags... each month I look forward to each magazine arriving in the mail. When it arrives the first thing I do with EVERY magazine (regardless of topic) is turn page by page (pretty quickly) looking at the pictures~ yes, I'm that type of girl! Pictures first, articles second! Weeks may go by before I pick it up again - the second time I pick it up is read any article that caught my eye. And, this time I will tag pictures or articles, with post it tags, that I want to scrap lift of review again.

Each of my magazines has a own pile (lined up against the wall or at the foot of the bed on top of the chest) & this makes it easier for me at night (when I look at magazines), depending on my mood, I will pick up from the top of the magazine stack. Well, this has become a problem with my scrapbooking and card magazines- because, they are the only ones I do not throw away. (Other magazines will get tossed after a few months have passed and I've exhausted the article subjects).

I have managed to "collect" craft magazines from 2003-2008. My dear B.G. Figgy (A.K.A. Connie) requested me to pass along a few of my sb mags to her --after I am finished with them. The pressure was on! ;) I have mused what to do - I had intended to cut each LO that I wanted to save and put it in to a composition notebook. I knew this would take FOREVER so I never got around to doing it. A few weekends ago I was introduced to another, more time effective option, idea by Evelynn!

I spent 4 hours this past weekend sorting through SB mags years 2003-2006! I FINALLY finished. I am saving 2007-2008 so that I can actually read every article before pulling LO's out.

Unfortunately, SB mags rarely get read by me- I almost always just look at the pics.

So, Saturday DH took me to SAMS to purchase in bulk top loading sheet protectors (got a case of 200 sheets). I have 23 sheets left!! I'm sending DH next weekend back to SAMS to buy 1 more case for me so I can do years 2007-2008 AND all my card and stamping magazines! Also, my binder is over stuffed (and very heavy) and now I need to get another binder!!!

I do intend to pass along the torn pgs to BG Figgy (or anyone else who wants them) once I scrap lift them. So, I expect my folders to get smaller and smaller as time goes on- then maybe I can start on my cooking magazines and tear out recipes that I want to try! Oh, the folders I will have! I'll be magazine organized! I imagine folders of: recipes, plants, exercise, travel.... the list goes on and on!! Now, if I only had the TIME!!!

Luv this card! So cute! hehehhe, is that rude of me to say? ;) Dynamic, Fabulous, Fantastic, etc. If I am being rude I might as well go for it and own it! ROFLOL.

The scan does not show the cards true nature- the square is actually cut out and the blue card stock is in the inside of the card. The only issue I have with this card is it does not allow for much space for writting inside of it~ not much room for a letter! hahaha, maybe some cards aren't meant for anything but looks!

Recipe: Stampin Up! Kraft & celery card stock, SU level one hostess pattern paper (blue), cat eye chalk ink in brown, buttons, SU fiber, craft knife, cricut cartridge "In my Garden". The original inspiration came from a 2006 Creating Keepsakes article. If I had not organized my magazines this last weekend (more on that in an upcoming post) I may not have made this card! It was meant to be!

Summer Flowers, Card

Love, Love, Love these colors together! I set out to use real red and bashful blue, but pulled out the tempting turquoise and thought it was perfect!! Love, Love, Love it!

Recipe: Stampin Up stamp set: "Enjoy Every Moment", SU ribbon, Su card stock: Real Red & Tempting Turquoise, SU "Dots" brass templates, SU hole punch, Love Elsie chipboard buttons, SU craft ink: Real Red.
Technique: Stamp real red craft ink on top of real red card stock, cut out. Use the "Dots" template as a guide to hole punch the polka dots- on top of the turquoise cs so the red will show through.

I love this easy cute card so much I think I'll try it with different colors too!

I made this card with my Grandfather in mind- kinda as a sympathy card with out a sad message. I love the little birdie! I'm loving all kinds of bird images recently!

Blue Hill, Card

Simple Saturday Card posting
One of my most favorite patterned paper line is Crate Paper! And, their newest releases just hit the nail on the head for me!~ I went GAa-GAa over the "Blue Hill" Collection kit! So, I sat down to make a card out of it and a SU stamp set. Once I cut the pp out, distressed it, poked holes around the edge I just couldn't bring myself to cover up the peacock in the pp. After much thought and consideration I decided to leave it as is- If I had intended to cut the peacock out so he sat at the lower half of my card I wouldn't have been able to figure it out! HA! Added some of the Stampin Up New 5/8 grosgrain ribbon (in Old Olive, of course) and a Heidi Swapp bling Corner and I'm saying (as Kat VonD says) "the Dishes Are Done!~"

So, back to the 5/8 Grosgrain Ribbon. I recently got a few colors for myself and now I'm wishing SU had even more colors options, because I want THEM ALL!!!! 5/8 grosgrain is currently available in: Very Vanilla, Chocolate Chip, Bravo Burgundy, Real Red, Regal Roe, Brocade Blue, Certainly Celery & Old Olive. Did I say that Old Olive is now my Fave SU color? (today anyways) Geez, it matches Basic Grey and Crate Paper! Old Olive ROCKS!

Scallop Punch Lady Bug, Card

I came across a crafter on the split coast stampers site who knows all things punchie- hehee, she used her creative mind to get the most of punches. Using her example, here is a lady bug using the Stampin Up scallop punch, a 1-3/8 circle punch and a 1 inch circle punch. Add some doodle lines to make the antenna and movement dots and Wa-La!

Other ingredients: Stampin Up! Summer Picnic pp (Occasions Mini Catalog 08), 1/4 red grosgrain ribbon. Stamp sentiment is Hero Arts. SU Craft Ink: Real Red. SU card stock in whisper white & Black. Scallop is cut from the prints pack designer series paper (level one hostess).

Double Dipped, Card

Who doesn't love a little Basic Grey - double dipped Strawberries and Chocolate?? Here's a little something something for all of you who agree with me!! I am pleasantly excited to see that Infuse BG matches PERFECTLY with SU Old Olive card stock! It's like SU and BG got together and did this on purpose!!

Recipe: Basic Grey "Infuse" paper pack, SU stamp set: Tart & Tangy, SU card stock: old olive, SU craft ink: real red, green galore, SU rubons (Sale-A-Bration), Heidi Swapp Ghost Butterfly & red bling. SU Grosgrain ribbon: Pink & always artichoke. Cricut Cartridge: Accent Essentials.

Peanut Butter & Jelly, Card

I never would have figured it out unless the accident happened... Basic Grey "Infuse" line and Stampin Up's Old Olive Card stock go together like peanut butter & jelly!

Recipe: BG Infuse, SU Old Olive card stock, SU stamp set: Tart & Tangy, SU scallop punch, BG round button chip board, SU Sale-A-Bration Rub-ons, Heidi Swapp bling flowers, SU Always Artichoke Grosgrain Ribbon.
The Chocolate dip strawberry is matted on top of the round chipboard piece. Also, I used my paper piecer to make pin-poin holes around the circumference of the scallop. The Rub-ons blend in to the paper in the scan that it is almost hard to tell it is there. but, look closely and you will see the green rub-on flourishes coming from behind the strawberry and up into the stripe paper. Also, accented some of the flourish with green and pink bling. This is one of those cards that is much prettier in person than in the scan. Hopefully you get the idea tho.

Happy Birthday to me! Happy Birthday To me! Happy Birthday to Meeeeeee, HB to me! hehehehe... To celebrate this special tax day (and, obviously b-day) I hope you enjoy this card post as much as I do....I LOVE Chocolate dipped strawberries! When I saw the tart & tangy stamp set I immediately Knew that strawberry needed to be dipped! Extra Yummy!

I LOVE Cherries!! Cherries remind me of summer sweetness! Here is a simple card using SU pattern paper (Summer Picnic) and Tart & Tangy! The Cherries are glazed to give them a realistic wet look (not sure if this shows in the scan).

Stampin Up! Stamp set Organization, Storage

It is FINALLY Saturday! I hope you had a great week and are able to relax and play a little in YOUR craft room this weekend!

Keeping with my weekend posting traditions, today I want to share how I store my SU stamp sets. As mentioned in a prior blog post, I have a built-in storage unit in the closet where I do all of my home crafting. Part of the shelving system includes four pull out draws. Each draw contains different style SU sets: 1.) Alphabets, Back ground stamps & greetings 2.) flowers & animals 3.) elements 4.) Holidays. In this picture you can see the inside of the draws. I store each set on its side with the label facing upwards. Also, I have found storing larger boxes
together and smaller boxes together helps conserve space.

Looking towards the future, I am concerned that I will outgrow my four draws! When that happens I have plans of switching the items currently on the closet shelves into the drawers and putting my stamp sets on the shelves- this will give me almost 10x the space- plenty of room to grow! As a reminder, this is a pic of part of my closet- showing the shelves and drawers...

Now that my stamp set collection is growing quickly, I had to find a way of cataloging each of my stamp sets. The system I adopted makes it easy for me to take a quick glance at all of my alphabets (as an example) with out lifting each box out of the drawer. Most of the images in my notebook I commandeered out of old catalogs but the newer stamp set images I am able to go online and print directly off the stampinup.com online catalog- print, and adhere to my notebook. Also, I have organized each section in my folder by which drawer I can find the stamp set. Here is an example of an index page :

I keep my catalog/index notebook right next to my craft table- and as you can see it is also right next to my (green) zipper binder which contains all my acrylic stamps! Also, this VERY LARGE swivel organizer contains all my Bazzill bling, Bazzill Card stock, water color paper, frequently used punches, white card stock, stamp cleaner, bone folder, pens, etc. My DH picked it up for me from a co-worker of his who no longer needed it. It is quite the cumbersome piece, but when I am working at my craft table it comes in VERY handy! On the bottom shelf of the stand it sits on I store SU PP and some 12x12 card stock (for my cricut).

Rub-on Magic, Cards

It's FINALLY Friday! We've all been looking forward to the week-end and we are almost there! A few days ago I got to play in my craft room with the Rub-on's I got from this years Sale-a-Bration. The pack is FULL of CUTE rub-on's. Now, granted, I've used Rub-on's in my scrapbooking but this is a first for me! Using Rub-on's on cards just made it all simple and easy! I am amazed to say that not a single stamp was used on any of the three cards in my post today! The hardest thing to do was to choose amongst the hundreds of rub-on images! This set came with four sheets of rub-ons (one sheet of each color: white, green, black & brown). Unfortunately the scans do not show the true cuteness in these cards...

the above orange cards were created from the SU summer picnic pp (from the occasions mini catalog) and the green rub-ons. I'm not sure if this shows in the scans or not, but I went back inside of some of the flowers and butterfly and used stickles and bling as accent.

The blue card uses the same SU pp. And, I pulled out the die cut felt flowers from SU too. The pp corner is pulled up to and stuck down with a brad. By doing this you can see the cute double sideness of the pp and reveals the sentiment on the cs. Also, I hand cut some of the flowers and glued them to the blue cs. The large white flower is a rub-on.

Again, these are very simple cards but every once in a while it feels good to be productive! So, I give rub-on's a 5 out of 5~ a MUST try on your next card! check in with me next week too for another CUTIE PATTOTIE Tart & Tangy card with rub-on scrolls. I love it and can't wait to show you, but I have some other things I want to post with it so you'll just have to wait! ;)

Apple of my Eye, Card

Thursday Card Post

I have truly been having FUN with the Tart & Tangy stamp set! This time I pulled out the APPLE stamp and gave it a stamping work out! Tart & Tangy is such an affordable and cute set! Apples seem more fall-ish to me, but I wanted to keep with the summer fresh foodies feel that makes me want to take a BITE!

Here's a card with Granny Smith and Red Delicious Apples :) They look so crisp and luscious! Other products used: SU Card stock: real red, green galore, SU patterned paper: Summer picnic, SU Craft Ink & grosgrain ribbon: Real Red, Green Galore, red & green glitter.

Slices of Tart & Tangy, card

Wednesday Card Post
When my eyes noticed the "Tart & Tangy" set from the Occasions 2008 mini Catalog I fell IN LUV immediately! Aside from the cute images, I couldn't resist the fantastic price! :) This was one of the sets I knew I HAD to have quickly!

Thinking outside of the box is not easy for me to do. However, with this set I set out to do just that. When I first saw the sliced image I thought of oranges. But, what else could be done with this seemingly simple stamp? In today's post I am sharing with you a few of the things I came up with.

Since oranges were the first thing I thought of, here's a card with just that= oranges! These little yummies are stamped in SU craft ink: Only Orange and with the SU wet glue stick I glittered them. Other products used: SU card stock: Only Orange, Whisper White & Bashful Blue, SU Summer Picnic Patterned Paper, Cuttlebug embossing folder. Notice how I stamped on my ribbon! love that! ;) Also, check out the Orange WEDGES! Just cut your slice in half and whaw-LAA!

The next card shows the slice as lemons, limes and an orange; all combined on one card. I love the summer, clean feel of this simple little card. Again, each slice is glittered with their matching color (yellow, green, orange). Other products: SU card stock: whisper white, green galore, yo yo yellow, only orange; SU Summer Picnic patterned paper; Fiskars deckled scallop scissors, cricut celebrations cartridge; SU stamp sets: Polka Dot background stamp, Tart & Tangy, Small Sayings.

Lastly, I cut the lemons & limes in half and arranged them as a scallop edge along the side of the patterned paper. And, notice the greeting on top of the lime. Another clean, summer card! Other products: SU stamp sets: Polka Dot background stamp, Tart & Tangy, Cuttlebug embossing folder: SU Craft ink: Yo Yo Yellow, green galore, Only Orange; SU card stock: whisper white & SU summer picnic pp.

Blue Kind Thoughts, Card

It's Tuesday! We made it through another Monday and moving closer to another weekend!! In yesterday's post I mentioned a card that I really, really liked with the Kind Thoughts stamp set. Well, today is the post where I am sharing this fave card. IRL it looks a lot prettier than in the scan, but hopefully you will get the idea...

I’ve got to admit that this card is one of my faves that I’ve done in a while! And, it was a fun creative process. I started out with it going in a completely different direction… and ended up with a gorgeous card- if I say so myself!

Recipe: Stampin UP! Cardstock: so saffron, whisper white, black, blue; SU Craft ink: chocolate chip, blue; Cricut Celebrations cartridge (scallop circle & scallop edge), SU 1-1/2 inch circle punch, SU Clear embossing Powder, SU stamp set: Kind thoughts; SU heat gun; Glue dots.

I clear embossed the large scroll on to Bazzill brown cardstock- I originally wanted that to be on the card front but I stamped it off center so I cut it out and matted it on blue then black cardstock. I had stamped the butterfly and had it already mounted on the scallop circle and noticed that it fit perfectly inside the large embossed image! LOVE it! Also, added the smaller circle image onto the so saffron cardstock for dimension on the card background. Also, I cut a second blue butterfly out and placed it ontop of the circle butterfly, the scan doesn’t show the way it pops off the card as IRL. LOVE, LUV it!!

Four Kind Thoughts, card

Hello Monday! I imagined this card to look totally different than how it turned out! LOL!! Each butterfly is stamped once in the craft SU ink then stamped on top of that with the versa mark and clear embossed. Also, got to use my NEW Stampin up punch for the sentiment! How cool!!

Recipe: SU stamp set: Kind Thoughts; SU Craft ink: pixie pink, red, blue, green galore; SU cardstock: real red, whisper white, black. Bazzill Bling cardstock: red, pink, green, blue; SU heat gun, SU clear embossing powder; Heidi Swapp polka dot ribbon, Stazon Black ink, SU polka dot background stamp, White pen, Heidi Swapp paper distresser.

Also, I created another card using this set that I prefer much better, but you'll have to wait until tomorrow to check it out ;) Have a GREAT day!

Acrylic Stamp Sets, Storage

Good Sunday Morning to you! I hope your weekend has been full of blessings. I had a short opportunity yesterday to play in my craft room. I'm excited to share with you this next week the cards that I've been busy creating. But, until then I would like to share with you the storage binder I keep my acrylic stamps in. I got this idea from my BFF who has a similar binder but hers is an official one from Technique Tuesday.

All my acrylic stamps are organized in a zipper binder I got the binder at my local office supply store. Two tips when looking for a binder 1) make sure the binder zips 2.) If you travel with your stamps, find a binder with a handle or strap 3.) Make sure to purchase a LARGE ringed binder- once you fill it with the storage sheets and add your stamps it gets full quickly!

Also, inside the binder I store my stamps on plastic storage sheets. And, the pages are organized by divider tabs labeled: Fonts, Words, Elements, Flowers, Animals, Mic. To help see the stamps (because they are clear) I attempted to stamp each sheet to create an index but it was not as easy as I suspected~ because some of the stamps were thicker and others didn’t reach the paper. So, currently I do not have a guide to help see the stamps, but I am finding most of the acrylic stamps are hard to keep clean (& clear) thus seeing the stamp images is getting easier the more I use the stamps! I purchased my plastic storage sheets from www. rubberstampconcepts .com Each set contained 3 sheets.

Generally I use my acrylic stamp sets when I am scrapbooking. They seem to be easier for me to carry when I meet with friends outside of my craft room. Check back with me next weekend and I'll share how I store and organize my beloved Stampin Up! sets!!

These cards were my first time playing with the Sassy Suzie set. Which is a F.U.N. set to play with because It contains Birthday sentiments, Friendship sentiments & thank you sentiments. Both of the cards in this post are Birthday Cards. Also, Suzie with the brown hair is colored in with the Stampin Up! markers and the brown card stock card uses watercolor pencils.

One of my fave type of journaling in sbing is utilizing "journaling strips" so I thought I would give these a fresh look by cutting up the Suzie's comments for a different flair!

Recipe: Stampin Up! stamp set Sassy Suzie (Occassions Mini 2008), SU card stock, Cuttlebug embossing folder, SU grosgrain ribbon, SU Craft ink (Black), SU markers, SU water color pencis, water color brush.

My Inspiration notebook, altered

Happy Thursday! This week is just flying by! I thought I would share the altered composition notebook I created. I use it to sketch LO's and Card ideas. I keep this notebook next to my computer so when I see an idea or sketch on the web I just draw it in the notebook. My notebook does not have ruled lines (like school paper) but rather little boxes like from grid - draft (Scientific paper) paper. That way I can use each box as a 1-inch marker so I get more accurate sketches.

Frappuccino Bottles, Altered

Altered Frappuccino Bottles

My Nieces were here experiencing Camp Julie 2008 the last couple of days! They are both VERY crafty ~ they know their way around a craft room!! Both tried their hands at altering frappuccino bottles and had so much fun! Now they just need to decide on what to fill their bottles with: candy, pencils, buttons, etc. Decisions, decisions!!

I made this pink and black bottle awhile ago for a swap I was in:



This set my 12 year old niece created.
She fell in-love with the Elsie pp line and of course DISNEY!!

This set my youngest niece created (9.5 years old). Like ME she LOVES anything PINK!!

Didn't they do an awesome job?! KUDOS to them!!
I am so proud of them! I wish I had 1/2 of the creative juices they do when I was their age.
One of my FAVE things to do is marvel at how easy they just glue and go!
I decided to let lose of my mind when I craft and let my inner child come out and play more!

Brown Paper Bags, Card

Now, these are some fun cards to make! All you need are the little Brown Paper Lunch Bags! Trim the bottom of the paper bags to fit inside the size envelope you want and fold the cut end up and secure with staples & decorate the end with ribbon! I made these two cards about a year ago and think this style card is so much fun to create!!
